Goodyear Wrangler AT/S Tire Review & Rating

The Wrangler AT/S from Goodyear can be found as original equipment on many of today’s trucks from Chevrolet, GMC and several other manufacturers, in addition to being available as a replacement tire. Designed for 2WD and 4WD pickups and larger SUV’s, the AT/S is engineered to deliver on and off road traction and handling and a longer tread life.

A tough all-season tread compound combines with a computer-optimized symmetric tread design to enhance traction on road or in rough off-road terrains. Dual Traction Lug channels are used to clear out mud and snow for better traction. We discuss how well this works down below.

Goodyear Wrangler AT/S Tire Review

The Wrangler AT/S sports over 7500 biting edges that work to increase traction on wet or snow covered road surfaces, as well as create added overall ride comfort. They are also designed to reduce road noise.

Inside the tire you will find two high-tensile steel belts to go with a polyester cord body for added strength and durability at all speeds. This tread construction further enhances ride comfort and promotes more even tread wear. Sizes are available from 15-20 inches, and in load ranges up to an E.

Pros

  • Very good traction on road and in gravel, sand, dirt
  • Steering is responsive
  • Exceptional treadlife

Cons

  • Mud traction
  • Tires are a little noisy as they wear down

Overall Thoughts

The Wrangler AT/S tries its best to crack the top ten in the All-Terrain class, but it comes up a bit short. Yes, it delivers very good traction on and off road in a variety of terrains. Steering response is solid, and the ride is about average for an AT tire. One area that this tires excels in is its treadlife. It’s exceptional, and one of the best in class.

Unfortunately, you then come to areas that this model under delivers. Traction in mud is less than stellar with reviews from other drivers talking about having to be pulled out. The mud also tend to pack and not clear itself out, which just by looking at the tread design you can see it would struggle at best. Although we know how AT tires can be a little more noisy than others, this tire seems to get a little more noise than average as it wears down.

Overall, while not a bad tire by any means, we rank this Goodyear tire in the middle to lower half of this class.

  1. I am having a hard time finding the tread ware rating for this tire in the 20″. Can you tell me the ratings that should be written on the side of the tire. tread ware _eg 700__, traction___eg A______, and temperature__eg B_______? . I saw where the tread ware was good but could not find the defining number.
