Goodyear Wrangler HT Tire Review & Rating

The Wrangler HT is Goodyear’s highway all-season tire that is used as original equipment on vehicles from Chevy, Ford and other automakers. Designed to provide year-round traction and handling, the HT is also built for a longer lasting treadlife.

An all-season tread compound and symmetric tread pattern increase dry traction and cornering grip. The tire’s solid center rib enhances steering response and gives the tire added stability throughout the speed zone.

Four deeper circumferential grooves evacuate water from under the tire and provide increased handling on wet road surfaces. Lateral grooves are designed to enhance light snow traction in winter weather conditions, although it could be much better on icy roads.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are nylon reinforced for added strength and durability. A two-ply radial polyester cord body adds to ride comfort, as well as increased steering response. Goodyear offers an optional E load rating in some sizes for those who need to haul heavy loads, and you will find sizes available from 15-16 sizes.

Pros

  • Excellent dry traction
  • Cornering grip is very good
  • Steering is responsive

Cons

  • Winter weather handling
  • Wet grip
  • Off road traction

Overall Thoughts

While the Wrangler HT is widely used as original equipment, it is also somewhat popular as a replacement tire. Goodyear has done a good job with dry traction and cornering performance on this tire, while also creating a tire with responsive steering and good overall stability.

The negatives on this tire include below average traction on wet pavement, as well as poor winter weather handling and grip. On anything other than light snow you may very well encounter traction and braking issues. We’ve heard this from numerous other drivers as well in reviews. Off road traction is ok given that it is not an all-terrain tire, but it tends to slide on light mud or wet grassy surfaces. On dry dirt and gravel it does just fine.

Overall, we rank the HT as just an average performing tire among truck/SUV all-season tires. Other tires like the Michelin Defender LTX M/S and the Cooper Discoverer H/T are better options if you are seeking higher performance.
