Goodyear Fortera SL Tire Review & Rating
The Fortera SL from Goodyear combines aggressive good looks and street performance, with a well-mannered and comfortable ride quality to give this tire exceptional balance. Designed for drivers of sport pickups, crossovers and SUV’s with larger rims, the SL is engineered for year-round traction and handling.
An all-season tread compound, directional tread pattern and computer-optimized design provide increased traction and grip on both dry and wet road surfaces. Larger shoulder blocks and blading in the center rib add stability and enhance steering response in the corners, as well as straight line accelerationand braking.
Traction on wet streets and roads is increased through the tire’s staggered circumferential grooves, lateral grooves and see-through grooves along the tread. They push water from under the tread and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Multiple sipes add more biting edges to aid in providing more grip on wet or snow covered pavement.
Goodyear uses footprint insensitivity to load technology to dampen outside road noise and further increase handling in all weather conditions.
Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are nylon reinforced for added strength and durability throughout the speed range. A polyester cord body enhances ride comfort and overall treadlife.
Pros
- Outstanding dry and wet traction
- Very stable tire for its larger size
- Smooth and comfortable ride
- Aggressive good looks and long lasting tread life
Cons
- Winter traction
Overall Thoughts
This Goodyear tire is impressive. For a 22 inch tire you might think that it would be loud and not handle all that well, but just the opposite is true. The traction and handling with the SL is pretty good in this class. Cornering stability is equally as impressive, and the tires give you complete control behind the wheel. Even if you are not that much of a spirited driver, you’re going to enjoy the performance this model provides.
Ride comfort is another area that this tire excels in. It’s very smooth and there is not a lot of outside road noise. About the only area that we can find that you could knock is winter traction. It’s good, but not great.
Beyond that, we like the aggressive good looks and even better…the long lasting tread life you can expect from this tire. Many driver reviews tell the same story in regards to the longer treadlife the tire provides.
Overall, the Fortera SL ranks in the upper half of the truck/SUV high performance all-season class.
