Gladiator QR500 HT Tire Review & Rating

Gladiator is becoming widely known for making tough, durable tires at an affordable price, and the Gladiator QR500 HT is no different. This all-season highway tire is built for all types of pickups, SUV’s and commercial vans for drivers looking to get reliable performance and longer lasting treadlife.

An all-season rubber tread compound and 5-rib asymmetric tread pattern combine to enhance dry traction and handling, which this model does a good job at. Braking and acceleration are better than average among tires in this class, especially budget-priced tires.

Gladiator QR500 HT Tire Review

Four circumferential grooves and added sipes around the tread increase wet traction and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. The sipes also provide for extra grip on snow, slush and hard-pack. Although this is no winter tire, traction is not all that bad on snow and ice.

An optimized tread design helps lower the road noise and increase ride comfort. Two steel belts and a polyester body add strength and durability to the tread, as well as extending treadlife.

Gladiator offers a number of 16-17 inch LT sizes in the QR500 HT. A limited tread warranty is also included.

Pros

  • Dry and wet traction is better than average
  • Comfortable ride
  • Tough and durable tread
  • Good value and performance for the price

Cons

  • Braking/acceleration on ice
  • Add more sizes

Overall Thoughts

Gladiator is making some very good tires like their popular X-Comp MT, and this QR500 HT is another model that may well surprise you with its overall performance. Traction and handling is more than adequate for the most part, and treadlife is showing to be quite good for a low-cost tire. While there is a little noise from the tread it’s nowhere near annoying.

The only area of concern may be braking and acceleration on ice and hardpack. Naturally, this isn’t really surprising since this is an all-season tire.

Overall, while tires like the Michelin Defender LTX M/S, Cooper Discoverer HTP and a few other top tires in this class arguably offer a bit more performance, this tire is not bad. If you’re looking for solid performing highway all-season tire for your truck, SUV or work van that is priced to save you some extra money, the QR500 HT is a very good option.
