General Grabber AW Tire Review & Rating

Used as original equipment on trucks and SUV’s from car makers such as Nissan, Toyota and Chevrolet, the General Grabber AW is built to deliver all-season performance and handling.

An all-season tread compound is molded into General’s computer-optimized tread design to provide a tread pattern that not only increases handling and steering response, but provides a more quiet overall ride quality. The tire’s solid center rib enhances stability throughout the speed zone.

General Grabber AW Tire Review

Driving on wet pavement is made safer with four circumferential grooves and lateral grooves around the tire. They channel away water from under the footprint and reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Added siping provides increased traction on light snow covered roads.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are nylon reinforced for added strength and durability. The polyester cord body further increases ride comfort and tread life. General offers sizes from 15-17 inches on the AW, and they include an optional E load rating for those who need the extra capacity for hauling heavier loads.

Pros

  • Dry and wet traction are good
  • Comfortable riding tire
  • Low outside road noise
  • Outstanding tread life

Cons

  • Deep snow and ice handling could be better

Overall Thoughts

We find the Grabber AW to be a good, but not great, all-around tire for the average driver. You can expect to find very good dry traction and handling response. Driving on wet pavement is ok, but could be better. Winter weather traction is not the best as well, but it’s adequate for the most part.

We like the ride comfort, and road noise is not as pronounced as you might think just from looking at the tread design. One of the best features is the longer lasting tread life. Other drivers have mentioned getting 90K miles and more from this tire, which is exceptional.

Overall, the AW is nice all-season highway tire for trucks and SUV’s. It provides you with year-round dependability that you can count on, and it provides good value with its longer treadlife. We give it a rank in the middle of this class.
