Federal Couragia F/X Tire Review & Rating

The Federal Couragia F/X high-performance summer tire is specifically designed for higher horsepower luxury SUV’s and pickups. Released in 2011, the Couragia F/X has proven to be a popular choice for drivers looking to add a performance boost to their vehicles and save a good amount of money at the same time.

An asymmetric tread pattern and continuous center rib increase steering response and deliver more precise handling and cornering stability. Larger outside shoulder blocks further enhance cornering grip at higher speeds on dry pavement, while stiffer interconnected blocks help with overall balance.

Federal Couragia F/X Tire Review

Federal has added four wide circumferential grooves around the tread that aid in wet traction and handling, while also helping to reduce the risk of hydroplaning. As other drivers have mentioned in their reviews, the Couragia F/X does a pretty good job in this area.

In addition, Federal includes a built-in rim protector to help in protecting your expensive wheels from being damaged. The Couragia FX comes in a wide range of 17-22 inch sizes, and every size features either an H, V, W or Y-speed rating. A limited tread warranty is included on all sizes.

Pros

  • Dry and wet traction
  • Above average braking and acceleration
  • Responsive handling
  • Lower cost

Cons

  • Soften the ride and lower the road noise a bit
  • Treadwear can be shorter than expected

Overall Thoughts

The Federal Couragia FX flies under the radar to a large extent. It delivers solid performance in many key areas. Dry and wet traction is on par with some of these bigger brand tires, and dry cornering and handling stability is very good.

Areas we feel could be improved on would include an increase in the treadlife. It’s not terrible, but it’s not great either. You may notice a bit more noise coming from this tire over a few others as well.

Overall, while tires like the Michelin Latitude Sport, Continental UHP, General UHP and others are at the top of this class, the Federal F/X certainly rates as one of the better value-priced summer models.
