Falken Ziex ZE-914 EcoRun Tire Review & Rating

The Ziex ZE-914 EcoRun is Falkens latest model under its Ziex tire lineup. Released in 2013, the ZE914 is designed to combine increased fuel efficiency with summer driving traction and performance. The tire is engineered for drivers of compacts, electric and hybrid vehicles.

A low rolling resistance silica-enhanced tread compound is matched up with an asymmetric tread pattern for increased fuel efficiency and a longer tread life. Falken claims 20% less rolling resistance on the EcoRun over the Ziex Ze-912.

The tire’s optimized slots and sipe placement around the tread provide added block rigidity in some areas, while giving it a softer touch in others. Together it allows for enhanced handling and added ride comfort. Four wide circumferential grooves channel away water from under the tire and reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

Inside the tire you’ll find two steel belts for added strength and durability at higher speeds. Falken offers sizes ranging from 15-18 inches and speed ratings up to a W.

Overall Thoughts

The ZE-914 EcoRun is an exciting new addition to the Falken lineup. This summer touring performance tire is really in a new class of tires that utilize the latest in fuel efficient technology to go with summer driving performance.

Traction on dry and wet pavement is very good on this model. The tire is stable and provides good steering feel throughout the speed zone. Please note that this is a summer tire and not designed for driving in cold weather or on snow and ice. Treadlife has also shown to be pretty good on this model as well.

Our only real issue is the added fuel efficiency. We’ve heard from numerous drivers who have said their mileage did not improve after running on this tire. That said, we wouldn’t let that stop us from installing this tire.

Overall, we like this new model from Falken and believe it will be a good seller in their lineup.

Falken provides a limited tread warranty on the ZE-914. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for the first 1/32 inch of wear. Materials and workmanship are warranted for the life of the tire or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.
