Dunlop Graspic DS-3 Tire Review & Rating

The Graspic DS-3 from Dunlop is one of the company’s most popular winter tires. Designed for drivers of coupes, sedans, minivans and crossovers, the DS3 is engineered to provide serious performance in snow, ice, slush and other road conditions.

A silica-based winter tread compound uses Dunlop’s Digital Rolling Simulation II technology, which provides a computer-enhanced design and enhanced tread compounding for maximum winter performance. The studless symmetric tread pattern and this newest technology work together to not only improve traction, but also deliver a longer lasting treadlife.

High-density sipes that sport a 3-D zig-zag shape, interlock on snow and ice to provide added steering response and increased traction. The biting edges enhance grip on hard packed snow, as well as increase traction when accelerating or braking. Snow indicators built into the tread allow you to see when the tire has worn past the point of providing maximum grip.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts with nylon reinforcement for added strength and durability. A polyester cord body adds to the ride comfort. Dunlop offers a number of different sizes from 13-19 inches.

Overall Thoughts

The Graspic DS3 has become one of better selling winter tires among all brands for good reason…it provides excellent performance on the snow and ice, while also giving a more comfortable ride and longer treadlife.

In addition, traction on cold dry pavement is very good. The tire provides responsive steering, and while the tread is a little soft, the tire offers pretty good cornering grip. Our biggest issue is wet surface handling. Starting and stopping on wet pavement could be better.

Treadlife is longer than many have expected, which is often mentioned in other reviews of this tire. Overall, while this tire is just behind the performance of the Continental WinterContact or X-Ice 2, it does a good job on snow and ice and makes a good choice in winter tires.

Warranty

Dunlop provides a limited tread warranty on the DS-3. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for one-year or the first 2/32 inch of wear. Materials and workmanship are warranted for 6-years and include free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.
