Dunlop Sport Maxx RT Tire Review & Rating

Created for sports cars, sporty coupes and high performance sedans, the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT is made for summer driving and designed to provide great traction and performance in dry or wet road conditions.

Developed using adaptive tread compound technology and a silica-plus tread rubber, which allows it to alter its performance depending on the road surface and condition, it increases traction and overall grip. For driving in dry summer conditions the tire’s outboard shoulder blocks and notched intermediate rib deliver excellent cornering and overall grip on the road.

The Sport Maxx RT also handles equally well in wet conditions with wide circumferential grooves to avoid hydroplaning and the specially designed Dunlop Multi-Radius-Tread Technology that promotes even tread wear and contributes to an all-round consistent performance.

Finally, two steel belts that have been reinforced with Dunlop’s JointLess Band (JLB) spirally wound cords provide protection, durability and ensure that the tires will last. You can find the Dunlop Sport Maxx RT tires in 17 to 19 inch sizes. This model has also been chosen by Subaru as OE for their 2015 WRX and WRX STI models.

Pros

  • Outstanding wet and dry traction
  • Quick steering response and excellent high speed stability
  • Exclusive Dunlop racing technology on-board

Cons

  • Cornering grip at higher speeds

Overall Thoughts

We’ve got mixed feelings on the Sport Maxx RT. On one hand this is an excellent tire when it comes to dry and wet traction. The steering is very quick and responsive, and overall ride comfort is pretty good for a high performance tire like this.

On the flipside, we are a bit disappointed with the cornering grip, especially at higher speeds. Of course with a 240 UTQG rating treadlife can be a bit shorter than you like, but that’s to be expected for this type of tire as well. It does feature a price that is below that of several other models.

Overall, the RT is a middle of the pack performer among all tires in this class.

  1. Great tire, it came as OEM in my VW Golf.
The design is pretty cool, it has good grip and traction ( in both wet and dry). Another nice thing is that they are not noisy. The Cons: it can wear pretty fast if you are a spirited driver and it needs a littke bit of traction in high speed cornering. Still a very good UHP Tire.

    1. The Treadwear is 240, Traction AA, Temperature A. The traction and grip are pretty good!! A nice all around UHP Tire.
