Dunlop Signature HP Tire Review & Rating

The recently released Dunlop Signature HP is the company’s newest ultra-high performance all-season tire. Built for drivers of all types of sports cars, coupes and high-performance sedans, the HP is designed to deliver increased year round traction, more responsive handling and a longer lasting treadlife.

An enhanced all-season tread compound and asymmetric tread pattern provide excellent traction, handling and braking on dry road surfaces. Dunlop has added larger outer shoulder blocks and continuous center ribs that give the tire the kind of handling and steering response you would expect from a UHP model. Steering is quick and responsive, while confidently gripping the pavement around corners.

Four circumferential grooves help evacuate water away from the tire and reduce hydroplaning, while the unique tread pattern and added sipes aid in driving on snow and ice, although this is not an area the tire excels in. Wet braking is another plus on the Signature HP.

Dunlop uses contoured edges around the shoulders to reduce road noise and increase comfort, which the tire does an adequate job at. Inside the tread are two high-density steel belts and JointLess Band Technology that adds strength and durability to the tread. The end result is longer and more even treadwear, which is evidenced by its 500 UTQG rating.

Sizes are available ranging from 16-19 inches, and speed ratings in either V or W. Dunlop warrants the HP for 45,000 miles.

Pros

  • Dry and wet traction
  • Responsive steering and cornering stability
  • Ride is comfortable and quiet
  • Even treadwear

Cons

  • Would like to see a little more winter performance

Overall Thoughts

For a UHP tire, the Dunlop HP is a good overall performer, as well as one that may frustrate more spirited drivers. What we mean by that is the fact this tire could easily become one of the best models in this class if Dunlop would have only upped the cornering grip. While it’s more than adequate for average driving and everyday use, for those who like to take corners at a much faster clip… you’re likely to be disappointed. It simply doesn’t provide that crisp handling you look for, or what tires like the BFGoodrich Comp-2 A/S delivers.

Aside from that, this tire does very well in other areas like dry and wet traction, ride comfort and even treadlife. Winter traction is iffy like it is on most high-performance tires, but it’s ok in light snow.

While arguably not on the level of models like the Continental DWS06 or Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 Plus, this Dunlop HP tire provides surprisingly good performance. We give it a rank in upper half of its class.
