Cooper Discoverer S/T Tire Review & Rating

Engineered as a hybrid of three distinct designs –all-terrain, high void and commercial traction, the Discoverer S/T from Cooper offers all-purpose performance for drivers of light trucks and sport utility vehicles.

A tougher tread compound and deeper tread elements combine with scalloped shoulders and beveled edges to provide off-road traction on a variety of terrains. From dirt, gravel, sand, grass and light mud, the S/T is built to deliver good performance and enhanced self-cleaning abilities.

Cooper Discoverer S/T Tire Review

An optimized tread profile that increases ride comfort, also provides a more evenly distributed contact patch for improved treadwear. Circumferential grooves around the tread help channel away water from under the tire and reduce the risk of hydroplaning on wet road surfaces.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts for added strength and durability. A polyester cord body increases ride comfort and promotes more even treadwear. The ST is also pinned for the addition of metal studs in the event you need them. Sizes are available ranging from 15-18 inches, and optional load ratings of up to an E.

Pros

  • Excellent dry, wet and winter traction
  • Very capable off-road performance
  • Quiet on the highway
  • Longer lasting tread life

Cons

  • Deep mud traction

Overall Thoughts

Cooper is known for their quality Discoverer line of tires and the S/T is no different. Expect to find good overall performance on dry, wet or snow covered pavement. Traction is sure and confident, while tire stability is outstanding.

The ride on the highway is not as noisy as you might expect from looking at the tread design, and it’s pretty comfortable as well. Tread life is another good point on this tire. Off-road performance is very good for the most part, with the possible exception of deeper mud. For trips to the campsite by the river, boating, etc., this tire will get you there easily.

Overall, we like the S/T for its solid performance and longer tread life. We rank it in the upper half of its class and give it a good recommendation.
