Cooper Discoverer H/T Tire Review & Rating
With advanced handling and traction, the Cooper Discoverer H/T is designed for drivers looking for all-season dependability to go with enhanced ride comfort. Developed for pickups, SUV’s and crossovers, the HT is Cooper’s premium all-season highway tire.
The all-season tread compound and asymmetrical tread pattern increase dry pavement traction and increase cornering performance, which this tire does well. A solid center rib adds more stability at higher speeds and provides good steering response and feel.
Driving on wet roads is made easier due to the four wide circumferential grooves that are notched to evacuate more water from under the tread and increase hydroplane resistance. The tire’s high density zig-zag sipes around the tread add more bite when driving in snow or on ice, although deeper amounts of snow is not a strength for this model.
Inside the tire you will find two steel belts that are spirally wrapped with nylon to add strength and durability to the tread. It also provides more even tire wear and a longer treadlife, which many drivers have mentioned in various reviews. Cooper offers sizes ranging from 15-17 inches, and the company stands behind this tire with a 60,000 mile tread guarantee.
Pros
- Traction and handling on dry or wet surfaces is very good
- Long lasting treadlife
- Ride is quiet and comfortable
- Excellent value for the money
Cons
- Would like to see just a little more winter traction
Overall Thoughts
Anyone driving a pickup or SUV is going to like driving on these Cooper tires. The traction and cornering abilities are impressive. Steering response is above average and makes you feel like you are in control at all times. Winter traction is about the only area we would like to see improvement in, but even there, performance is still good. In addition, this is not a snow tire.
The ride and comfort level is on par with other brands that cost much more. With a lower price than many other brands in this class, the Discoverer HT provides excellent value and performance for the money. Overall, it’s a tire that rates in middle to upper half of its class.
