Continental CrossContact LX Tire Review & Rating

The Continental ContiCrossContact LX is designed to provide drivers of pickups and SUV’s a highway all-season tire that offers excellent traction and a smooth comfortable ride. This model can also be taken off-road in light terrain conditions such as camping, fishing and other locations.

A Tri-net silica tread compound is engineered to increase dry, wet and winter driving performance, as well as a lower rolling resistance. The asymmetric tread pattern further adds to its handling abilities, while the tire’s continuous center rib enhances stability and gives the tire more responsive steering. Notched outer shoulders increase cornering grip and keep you in control at higher speeds.

Driving in wet weather is made safer due in part to four circumferential grooves that are tapered and get wider at the tread surface for increased wet handling. They also reduce the risk of hydroplaning. Inter locking sipes in the tread blocks provide solid traction and control in light snow and other winter conditions.

Continental utilizes its Acoustic Alterra Technology in the tread makeup that minimizes road noise and creates a more comfortable ride quality.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts with a polyester cord body that provide added strength and durability, as well as additional ride comfort. A rim protector along the sidewall protects your expensive wheels from curb damage. Sizes are available from 15-22 inches, and a 65,000 mile tread guarantee is also included.

Pros

  • Dry and wet traction is excellent
  • Tire handles light winter weather pretty well
  • Steering is responsive
  • Ride is comfortable and quiet

Cons

  • Would like to see a little more treadlife
  • Heavy snow and ice may be problematic

Overall Thoughts

The Cross Contact LX delivers the type of dry and wet traction you would expect from a good Continental tire. It doesn’t let you down in being able to handle dry, wet, and even snow covered road surfaces, although heavy snow and ice can be a little more tricky. You can expect to find dependable cornering performance and responsive steering control, with good stability throughout the speed range.

The ride is equally as good. You won’t find a lot of excessive noise on this tire, nor will you feel all the bumps in the road. The only area that we feel could be improved upon would be treadlife. While it is decent for sure, some drivers have mentioned in their ratings and reviews of not getting enough mileage. Continental does include a solid 65,000 mile warranty.

Overall, for a highway truck/sport utility vehicle tire, the LX is an average to above average performer. While arguably not on the same level as the LX20, or other tires such as the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus, Michelin Premier LTX or Cooper SRX, it holds its own and makes a good choice in new tires.

  1. Just. curious, has anyone ever reported blowouts with these tires. I had one on the interstate with less than 2,000 miles on the tire.

    1. Hey, I haven’t come across any solid blowout related incidents but these tires do have a relatively low tread life.
