Continental ContiTrac Tire Review & Rating

The ContiTrac from Continental is built to provide all-season highway performance with the added capability of being used off-road in very light terrain. Used as original equipment over the years on light trucks and SUV’s from Ford, Nissan and other auto makers, the ContiTrac is also offered as a replacement option for drivers needing 15-18 inch tires.

An all-season tread compound that features a lower rolling resistance for added fuel efficiency is matched with a symmetric tread pattern that increases dry and wet traction on all road surfaces. A continuous center rib enhances steering response and overall tire stability and control throughout the speed range.

The tire’s four circumferential grooves channel away water from under the tire and increase resistance to hydroplaning for added safety on wet road surfaces. Continental uses a tread pitch sequence on this tire in an effort to reduce road noise, which you can read more about in our overall thoughts below.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts for added strength and durability, as well as a polyester cord body for increased ride comfort and more even treadwear. LT sizes with an E load rating for carrying heavier loads are available.

Overall Thoughts

While the ContiTrac has been used extensively as original equipment on a number of trucks, we feel it is a lower half of the class performing tire. Yes, the traction you’ll find on dry pavement is very good, as is the steering and cornering. In addition, tread life is about average.

The biggest issues with this model is the poor performance on snow and ice. You’ll find many drivers saying the same things in reviews and ratings on this tire. Road noise is the other area that plagues this tire. The noise is far above average and it continues to get louder as the tires age.

If a highway all-season truck/SUV tire is what you are after, we would suggest models such as the Michelin Defender LTX M/S, Falken Ziex S/TZ-05 and the General Grabber HTS60 among others that would make a better option.

Warranty

Continental provides a limited tread warranty on the ContiTrac. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. Materials and workmanship are warranted for 6-years and include free replacement during the first year or first 2/32 inch of wear. A prorated amount is given for the remaining time period or down to the final 2/32 inch of tread depth.

You will also find a one-year road hazard warranty and Continental’s 30-day customer satisfaction trial that allows you to exchange the tires for another Continental model if you are not completely satisfied.
