Continental 4×4 SportContact Tire Review & Rating

Made for sport pickups and SUV’s, the Continental 4×4 SportContact is designed to provide ultra-high performance in a variety of street conditions. Used as original equipment on vehicles like the Range Rover Land Rover, Porsche Cayenne and others, the SportContact is built for serious high performance use.

An asymmetric tread design with large outer shoulder blocks provides consistent cornering and traction abilities. This includes both wet and dry conditions where wide circumferential and lateral grooves help to get rid of water as well to avoid the possibility of hydroplaning.

Steering response is enhanced by the continuous center rib, while durability and stability are provided by the two steel belts that are reinforced by spirally wrapped polyamide over a rayon cord casing.

The Continental 4×4 SportContact tires come in 19 to 20 inch sizes and a Y speed rating.

Pros

  • Consistent driving in wet and dry conditions
  • Cornering grip
  • Responsive steering

Cons

  • Tread tends to wear quickly
  • Tires are expensive

Overall Thoughts

For serious high performance use, there’s a lot to like about this Continental model. It delivers fast steering response and excellent overall stability, and the cornering grip is equally as impressive. We like the traction on dry or wet road surfaces and ride comfort is surprisingly good for an UHP tire.

On the other hand it’s hard to overlook the poor treadlife on this tire. This is confirmed from the numerous driver reviews as well. Some have only gotten a few thousand miles from the tread. Granted, driving habits are going to play a big role in how fast the tire wears, but not to the extent we’re hearing.

Overall, we rank this model down the list for street/sport truck owners. The Continental CrossContact UHP would make a better choice in tires, as well as the General Grabber UHP among others.
