Continental ProContact GX Tire Review & Rating

Built for use as original equipment on a variety of sport coupes and sedans, the Continental ProContact GX is also sold as a replacement tire as well. It’s designed to deliver touring all-season drivability, to go with reduced road noise, improved ride comfort, and enhanced fuel efficiency.

The tread pattern on the GX features a multi directional design which helps maintain grip on wet and dry road conditions. Four deep circumferential grooves help in evacuating water and reducing the chances of hydroplaning on wet roads. As an all-season tire, it is also appropriate for use in light snow, although this is certainly not a strength for this model.

Continental ProContact GX Tire Review

For drivers seeking to maintain their consistency in replacement tires and driving performance, these tires are the exact factory replacement for many vehicles.

This tire is available in sizes ranging from 17-19 inches in either T or H-speed ratings. Continental also includes a limited warranty.

Pros

  • Fuel efficient
  • Reasonably priced in a wide range of sizes

Cons

  • Lower the road noise
  • Rapid tread wear

Overall Thoughts

All-season factory tires are generally considered just “OK” by most drivers. They aren’t horrible under ideal driving scenarios, but they aren’t anything special either, particularly in winter driving conditions. Unfortunately, the ProContact GX doesn’t break this mold. It is an average-at-best OE tire.

While the tire is reasonably priced, there just aren’t any features and benefits that really make it stand out when compared to other tires in its class. Grip in wet and dry conditions is adequate, but you won’t feel any standout performance when it comes to handling, steering response or cornering power.

The biggest knock on the GX is its poor tread life. Far too many drivers have complained about getting fewer miles out of the tread than expected. If your goal is to replace the stock tires which came on your vehicle-either because you’re on a budget or because you’re planning on selling the vehicle soon-these tires may be a reasonable choice. But if you’re keeping your vehicle and just looking at replacing them, there are other higher performing tires to look at.
