Consumer Reports Releases Best Tires For 2014

Consumer Reports is set to release their picks for the best tires of 2014 in their upcoming April issue. As expected, Michelin dominates the listings in nearly every category.

CR bases their results on tests in areas such as wet road grip, fuel efficiency (based on lower rolling resistance), tread wear, hydroplane resistance, ride comfort, road noise and various other factors.

Here’s a look at the picks for 2014:

  • T-speed rated all-season tires: Michelin Defender, Continental ProContact EcoPlus, Goodyear Assurance TripleTred All Season, Pirelli P4 Four Seasons, Michelin Energy Saver AS/S and the Yokohama Avid Ascend.
  • H-speed rated all-season tires: Michelin Primacy MXV4, Continental PureContact and the Nexen CP672.
  • V-speed rated all-season tires: Continental PureContact, Pirelli P7 Cinturato All Season and the Michelin Primacy MXV4.
  • Ultra-High Performance All-Season tires: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric All Season, Continental Extreme Contact DWS, Hankook Ventus S1 Noble 2, BF Goodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S, Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season and Cooper Zeon RS3-A.
  • Ultra-High Performance Summer tires: Pirelli P Zero, Michelin Pilot Super Sport, Yokohama Advan Sport V105, Nokian zLine, Continental Extreme Contact DW, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 and the Vredestein Ultrac Vorti.
  • All-Season Truck/SUV tires: Michelin LTX M/S2, Michelin X Radial LT2, Michelin Latitude Tour HP, Michelin Latitude Tour and the Continental CrossContact LX20 EcoPlus.
  • All-Terrain Truck/SUV tires: Cooper Discoverer A/T3, Michelin LTX A/T2, Hankook Dynapro ATM, Kumho Road Venture AT KL78 and the Kumho Road Venture SAT KL61.
