Bridgestone Turanza EL400 Tire Review & Rating

The Turanza EL400 from Bridgestone is used mainly as original equipment on coupes, sedans and minivans from auto makers like Toyota, Dodge, Suzuki and a few others. The EL400 is engineered to deliver all-season traction and handling to go with a comfortable ride.

A silica enhanced all-season tread compound contains L.L. Carbon that is designed to increase wet traction, while also providing a longer tread life. Bridgestone’s unique Computer Optimized Component System combines the tread design, casing shape and tire construction into a more efficient and effective overall tire.

Circumferential grooves and lateral grooves provide wet traction and handling by evacuating water from under the tire and increasing handling performance, but this is certainly not a strength for this tire. The tire’s 5 Degree Noise Reduction technology produces noise-canceling sound waves that are designed to dramatically eliminate tire noise and create a more comfortable ride.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts and a polyester cord body that add more strength and durability to the tire, as well as deliver better ride quality. There is either an 80,000 mile or 50,000 mile tread guarantee on this model depending on the tire’s speed rating.

Pros

  • Dry traction and cornering are good
  • Braking and acceleration
  • Comfortable ride

Cons

  • Treadlife issues
  • Wet traction is poor
  • Lower the noise
  • Winter handling

Overall Thoughts

The EL400 is a low cost daily commuting type of tire. It’s easy to see why it is used extensively as original equipment on so many different vehicles. You can expect to find good dry pavement traction and handling, as well as a comfortable ride on most road surfaces. That’s the good news. The problem is, things turn south from there.

Performance on wet roads, and especially on snow or ice, needs improving in a big way. Many other drivers have made similar comments in their reviews. The tires slide and you just do not feel confident behind the wheel. Tread life has been another big issue for this tire. Even with its cheaper price, you expect to get more life out of the tread than it provides. Finally, road noise is another area that needs addressed.

Overall, we rank this model in the lower half of the all-season tire class.

  1. I have a Toyota Camry and these tires came with the new purchase. Agree with the above reviews regarding the noisy ride as well as the wet traction and am currently at 45k miles and the tires need to be replaced.

  2. At 33k the tires are almost to the wear bars on my s550 Mercedes. I thought I would get better wear than this from these
    tires.

  3. I have an 2019 Avalon Limited, bought new. It listed for $45,000. It has Bridgestone Turanza tires and they are
driving me crazy. They are really noisy and sound uneven. The dealer won’t do anything and Bridgestone will not
either. I have never had an issue this bad before. The fact that no one will do anything about it when I only have
6000 miles on it and have complained from day one, really makes me angry.

  4. These tires came on my new 2017 Camry. Professionally rotated by Toyota dealer every 5,000 miles I currently have 34,000 miles on them and fronts are down to the wear bar and need to be replace. These tires are junk you couldn’t get 40,000 out of them if you only drove in a straight line. No more Bridgestone’s for me. Michelin only from now on.

  5. These tires came as O.E.M on my 2013 Toyota Avalon, Limited (225/45/18) (47,000 miles currently). This is a very loud tire, as road noise in a pretty sealed cabin of the Avalon is annoyingly noticeable. These tires give me no grip or feel for the road whatsoever and every hump and bump is felt in the entire vehicle. I give the wet traction a C and that is with the help of the vehicle traction control system, and again the inability for the driver to feel the road with these tires. Tread wear was just above 45,000 miles before I had to replace, and as the tire wore down, all of the above evaluated conditions worsened. I could not wait to rid myself of these poor performing tires. These tires are terrible and should be taken off the market. I will never recommend these tires for anyone.
