Bridgestone Dueler H/T 689 Tire Review & Rating

Built for all-season highway use, the Bridgestone Dueler H/T D689 is designed for drivers of light trucks and sport utility vehicles. The 689 has been used as original equipment on many different trucks and SUV’s from Toyota, Nissan and other manufacturers.

An all-season tread compound and computer-optimized tread pattern is designed to provide maximum dry and wet pavement traction, while also enhancing ride comfort. This tread design also helps improve steering response and cornering abilities, something that is a plus on this tire.

Bridgestone Dueler HT 689 Tire Reviews

The tire’s tread grooves increase wet performance and help reduce the risk of hydroplaning on wet road surfaces. One thing we noted on this tire is the extra deep tread it features. You’ll find 11/32 to 15/32 inch depths on this model, which should give it a longer tread life.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts for added strength and durability, while the more rounded casing profile provides smoother ride performance. The Dueler 689 is available in 16-17 inch sizes, along with S and H-speed ratings. Bridgestone also includes a 60,000 mile tread guarantee.

Pros

  • Very good dry traction and cornering capabilities
  • Responsive steering
  • Comfortable and quiet ride

Cons

  • Winter handling
  • Wet traction could be better
  • Improve the treadwear

Overall Thoughts

Driving on the H/T D689 may give you somewhat mixed feelings. On the plus side you can expect dependable dry traction and predictable cornering grip. The steering is responsive and overall tire stability is pretty good under most conditions. Ride comfort is also another area that stands out on this model. It’s smooth and pretty quiet for a truck tire.

On the other side though, this is a tire that does not perform well in most winter weather conditions. Ice traction and braking is poor and deeper snow can be problematic. Driving on wet surfaces is another area that could be improved on as well. Finally, while treadlife is not terrible, it could be better and it’s an area mentioned by other drivers as well.

Overall, this Bridgestone model ranks in the lower to middle half of the highway all-season class. You may want to check out tires such as the Michelin Defender LTX M/S, Yokohama YK-HTX and Cooper Discoverer HTP among others, which all provide higher performance.
