Bridgestone Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia Tire Review & Rating

The Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia from Bridgestone is engineered to deliver all-season traction and handling to go with exceptional ride comfort. Developed for drivers of all sizes of crossovers and SUV’s, the 422 Ecopia features an eco-friendly design and a lower rolling resistance for enhanced fuel efficiency.

A fuel saving all-season silica tread compound utilizes Bridgestone’s exclusive NanoPro Technology, which not only lowers the rolling resistance of the tire, but is also engineered to increase dry and wet handling performance. A Fuel Saver compound in the sidewall lessens heat generation, which adds to improved fuel efficiency.

Independent center tread blocks and the tire’s continuous center rib provide enhanced stability and increased steering response on dry or wet surfaces, while further reducing road noise. Four circumferential grooves push water away from under the tire for added handling on wet roads, adding safety and confidence while driving in bad weather, which is an area this tire does quite well. Added sipes around the tread provide biting edges for driving in snow and ice.

Inside the tire you will find two steel belts with nylon reinforcement for added strength and durability. A polyester cord body increases ride comfort and tread life, which is an area that this tire excels in. Bridgestone has sizes available from 16-20 inches, and you’ll find a 65,000 mile tread guarantee on this tire as well.

Pros

  • Exceptional dry traction and cornering grip
  • Wet handling is above average
  • Very smooth riding tire without the road noise
  • Outstanding tread life

Cons

  • Deep snow and ice handling could be just a bit better

Overall Thoughts

The HL 422 provides a well-balanced blend of road performance and comfort that make it an excellent choice in new tires. The traction on dry and wet pavement is better than many tires in this class. Steering is responsive and stable during acceleration and braking, as well as in the corners. The tire allows you to be in complete control at all times, something that can’t be said for some tires. On top of that you may find the fuel efficient design provides an added boost in gas mileage.

The only area that we could find to even mention as a negative would be traction in deep snow and ice. Then again, this is not a winter tire, and unless you live in areas that see substantial amounts of deep snow for months on end, this is not a big problem in the least.

Ride comfort is very good on this Bridgestone model, although arguably not up to level of tires like the Michelin Premier LTX. That said, it still holds its own. Outside road noise is not a real concern on this tire. In fact we would go as far as saying it is among the most quiet riding tires you’ll find available today. Finally, you can expect a pretty good treadlife, which is something other drivers often mention in reviews as well.

Overall, the Dueler H/L 422 is a solid all-around performer and easily ranks in the upper half of this category.

  1. I bought four ECOPIA EP422 PLUS tires through Costco in April 2020. My vehicle is an European Market Import with the odometer and dashboard in metric system, registered in Canada. The proposed Warranty: 70k miles, equivalent to 120k kilometres. When the tires were installed, the odometer clocked 432,000 km. The tires were rotated more frequently at the suggestion of Meineke in Missoula after a thorough inspection. So I rotated the tires about every 2k miles or 3k kilometres, instead of the general suggestion of every 6k miles or 10k kilometres. The tires were wearing evenly without any further issues other than the thread clocking already 4/32nds in June 2021 with the odometer clocking 475,000 km, which is about 30k miles or 50k kilometres, literally less than half of the proposed warranty. Costco will not rotate the tires anymore if it reaches 2/32nds. To add insult to injury, one of the tires blew flat in Nevada on a paved road but the air temperature was around 106 F which means the pavement was very hot above 120 F, we believe it blew by going slow over one of those horrible cattle guards that have sometimes sharp edges. I didn’t drive the tire flat that long and it had been already damaged on the walls. The warranty is void in said case, but the tire personnel at Costco told me that Bridgestone makes tires with soft walls, in contrast with their competitors who will make the walls much harder to avoid said damage. Tires wear faster by driving at higher speeds, albeit I rarely exceeded my own cruising speed of 55 MPH or 90 km/h. With all the science data exposed above and being myself a scientist, my conclusion is that I have been scammed and I should try to recover some of the costs in court, and I am never purchasing Bridgestone tires again.

  2. i have a 2018 Chevy Equinox and drove les than 39,000. I kept up on scheduled rotations through dealer. Due to turn in my leased vehicle and inspector says tires are worn and may be charged for replacemnt of 4 tires. Are these under warranty and how can i get answers quickly.

  3. What is the warranty on BridgestoneDueller HL 422 24560R18 104T MtS with only 11,300 miles on the tires bought new on my 2018 highlander was told they were fair! Fair with only 11,300 miles?????? what recourse do I have as far as warrantee for new set?

  4. I have a 2018 Highland XLE with 11,300 and was told my tires are fair condition! I’m not very happy what should I do?

  5. 18K miles on 225/45/19 Nissan Rogue Sport SL horrible tires.

Squirm all over the road have had them rotated no wet traction last winter AWD useless with these on the car horrific tires.

Please contact me asap I need to get them off my car immediately before my family dies.

  6. I have these tires on my 2018 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, 235 on 18 inch.
Honestly speaking these are the worst tires I ever had on any car. Dry is somehow ok, but when the road is a little wet, the grip is close 0. Full acceleration on wet surface – there is wheelspin until 80 kph..
I would consider these as dangerous.

    1. Hi Rob, we are very sorry for your experience. During our research we have come across positive feedback from customers about the Bridgestone Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia Tire. We will carry out further research regarding the problem you faced. Thank you for your feedback.

  7. I had this on my highlander. Two reasons why I am not going with this again

Lack of control in wet weather after 25K miles

    Skidding from wet stop

  8. Decided to go with the 422’s because of good reviews, and were a little cheaper than the LTX/MS Michelins I had wore out. There were high praises on their “fuel saving compound” but on my 06 Envoy, I’m not seeing it. Highway mpg is virtually the same. Hopefully they will last and wear as good as the Michelins did.

  9. Went with this tire on my Ford Escape based on the reviews of it having better gas mileage and being quiet on the highway. The reviews are right, this tire is as quiet running of any tire I’ve ever driven on.
I’ve put on roughly 8400 miles on them and noticed a gain in mileage by 2.7 mpg.
