Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position RFT Tire Review & Rating

Created for sports car, sports coupe and sedan drivers, the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position RFT is built to deliver solid dry and wet traction with exceptional cornering grip and stability. Unique run-flat technology allows you to drive up to 50 mph for 50 miles in the event of a flat tire.

A 90% silica content tread compound is matched to an asymmetric tread design, larger tread blocks and a continuous center rib to offer stable driving on good road surfaces as well as outstanding grip in dry and wet conditions. Indeed, wet driving is enhanced by wide circumferential and lateral tread grooves that channel away water and virtually eliminate hydroplaning.

The RE050A also features an additional continuous circumferential rib which can be found adjacent to the inside shoulder block. This helps with keeping road noise down and creates more even tire wear over the tires life span.

Durability is assured with the twin handling-optimized steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon and, finally, a fabric cord body and higher sidewall reinforcement also improves stability and steering.

Available in 18-20 inch sizes, the RE050A comes with a Y speed rating. There is also a limited tread warranty with this tire.

Pros

  • Exceptional dry and wet traction
  • Tires are a beast in the corners
  • Quiet and comfortable
  • Durable with a design to assure stability

Cons

  • Not a low cost tire

Overall Thoughts

With a range of technology that has been developed by Bridgestone, the RE050A RFT performs consistently across dry and wet conditions with solid traction and grip. They simply hold the road among the best in their class. Cornering grip is like glue. Trying to break them loose is a difficult task at best.

Beyond that, you may be surprised with the level of comfort this tire provides, especially for a run flat version. Road noise is minimal due in part to the additional circumferential rib. Tread life is another strong area with this model. The one drawback, other than this not being a low cost model,  is that you don’t want to even think about driving on these tires when temps get below 40 degrees or in winter weather conditions.

Overall the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position RFT is one of the best run-flat summer high performance tires on the market today. Yes, it’s really that good and highly recommended.
