Nitto NT850 Plus CUV Tire Review & Rating

Using an all-new tread compound lowers rolling resistance and state-of-the-art computer simulation technology, the Nitto NT850 Plus CUV is designed specifically for drivers of crossovers and smaller SUV’s.

Nitto has given this all-season tire interlocking tread blocks and a continuous center rib that add a little more stiffness to the tread for increased dry traction and handling, as well as quicker steering response. It also helps increase brake performance.

Larger circumferential grooves and multiwave 3-D sipes channel away water and slush for enhanced traction on wet streets and highways. The added sipes also give it extra bite for driving through snow and ice, something this model does a fairly good job at.

Nitto’s Quiet Serration technology is designed to break up the repetitive tire noise you often find on the road and making for a more comfortable ride quality. The technology works, as we’ve heard from many drivers who mention how quiet the ride is on all types of road surfaces.

The NT850 Plus CUV differs from the NT850 Plus only minimally. The tread pattern is really the only difference since Nitto wanted to engineer it for vehicles with a higher weight and higher center of gravity. The CUV comes in a range of 17-20 inch sizes and is backed with a 50,000 mile tread warranty.

Pros

  • All-season traction
  • Handling and cornering grip
  • Quiet ride

Cons

  • Ride comfort over rough surfaces
  • Traction on ice
  • Treadlife could be better

Overall Thoughts

It’s not often that you find a tire that performs exactly as the manufacturer says it will, but the Nitto NT850 Plus CUV is one of those tires that does just that. You can expect to find better overall handling and a quieter ride on this tire.

As with most any tire that has a stiffer tread for added handling and cornering, you get a bit more of a stiffer ride and that is the case here. Bumps and potholes are a little more noticeable, but we can live with that due to the added handling the tire provides.

Overall, the NT850 Plus CUV is a definite step up over OEM tires on crossovers and SUV’s. It performs very well and with its lower price over comparable models, we give it a high ranking for a performance all-season tire.
